Why São Paulo

Brazil's Economic and Academic Hub

Our View

Over 65% of Brazilian students who study abroad come from São Paulo. Events held on Saturdays typically attract a higher number of quality visitors compared to Sundays — which is good, but in our view not as effective. Therefore, we strongly recommend scheduling your event on a Saturday.

If you work with agents, FPP also offers an additional optional service to connect you with local BELTA agents (we have a very close relationship with BELTA, the Brazilian Association of Educational Agents). We can also arrange meetings with bilingual local school counselors, which can take place in the days leading up to the event. If this is of interest, please book these services with your FPP representative well in advance.

São Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and South America, serving as the country's financial, corporate, and economic center. It is home to the headquarters of Brazil's major companies, multinational corporations, and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem.

São Paulo cityscape

Academically, São Paulo is the intellectual capital of Brazil, housing some of the country's most prestigious universities, including USP (Universidade de São Paulo), consistently ranked as Latin America's top institution. The city attracts ambitious, high-achieving students from across Brazil and the region.

Academic Profile & Student Mindset

Students in São Paulo tend to be academically driven, career-oriented, and globally minded. Many come from families with international exposure, professional backgrounds, and high educational expectations.

The city's competitive academic environment fosters a culture of ambition. Students here are often preparing not just for university, but for global careers in business, technology, law, medicine, and the arts.

Unlike smaller Brazilian cities, São Paulo students frequently have prior exposure to international travel, languages, and global perspectives — making them naturally inclined toward study abroad as a serious and strategic option.

Study Abroad Culture

São Paulo has a well-established culture of international education. For academically ambitious families in the city, studying abroad — particularly in the U.S., Canada, UK, and Europe — is often seen as a preferred pathway, not an exception.

Parents in São Paulo tend to be highly informed about global universities and willing to invest in their children's education internationally. The city also has a large network of international schools, bilingual programs, and college counseling services that actively promote study abroad opportunities.

This makes São Paulo one of the highest-quality student recruitment markets in Latin America — combining scale, academic readiness, financial capacity, and a strong cultural orientation toward international higher education.

Strategic Opportunity

For U.S., Canadian, UK, and European universities, São Paulo represents a strategic recruitment market where students are not only academically qualified but also culturally and financially prepared for international study.

The city's combination of academic excellence, economic strength, global orientation, and educational infrastructure makes it an essential market for institutions seeking serious, high-caliber applicants from Brazil.

São Paulo — A City That Never Stops

São Paulo is Brazil's largest and most dynamic metropolis, famous for its world-class gastronomy, cultural diversity, and vibrant arts scene. From iconic avenues and museums to endless shopping and entertainment, it offers an urban experience like no other in Latin America.
